Our air conditioning and fireplace systems are connected to an intelligent KNX management system that reduces energy consumption by up to 20%. This system automatically adjusts lighting, blinds, gas fires, and underfloor heating to balance guest comfort with minimal energy use. All lighting uses low-watt LED bulbs powered by a voltage transformer, and every suite features double-glazed enviro-glass windows and superior insulation.
Water used across the lodge comes from our ancient natural spring, delivering pure, sustainable hydration to all taps and our bottled water. Inside every room, guests will find water-efficient taps and dual-flush toilets to help reduce water usage without compromising experience.
We go beyond the basics of recycling. Glass, paper, plastics, and packaging are all carefully sorted, while organic waste, including coffee grounds and ageing fruit, is composted or directed to our onsite worm farm. Leftover soap is donated to Soap Aid, spirit bottles are repurposed for syrups, and lemons and limes are transformed into cordial. Our waste is divided to ensure only 20% ends up in landfill.
All cleaning products used are biodegradable, environmentally safe, and grey water compliant. Our partnership with Jurlique includes customised refillable dispensers in every suite, saving thousands of single-use hotel toiletries from landfill each year.
At Sequoia Lodge, we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all guests. Our two accessible suites have been thoughtfully designed with features such as level access, roll-in showers, and accessible toilets to ensure comfort and ease of use. These rooms are also interconnecting, making them ideal for guests travelling with a carer or companion, while still maintaining privacy and independence.
Giving back is at the heart of our values. Sequoia Lodge proudly supports a number of not-for-profit and community organisations that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Through partnerships with Backpacks for Kids, Variety – the Children’s Charity, the HAS Foundation, and St Vincent de Paul, we contribute to initiatives that provide vital assistance, care, and hope to families and individuals in need across South Australia.
We source fresh produce locally to reduce food miles and support our regional suppliers. Our commitment to protecting flora and fauna is reflected in our pet-free policy, the absence of chemical fertilisers and herbicides, and the sensitive design of our lodge in harmony with its natural surroundings.
At Sequoia Lodge, our commitment to sustainability extends to supporting biodiversity through our onsite beehive. These industrious pollinators play a vital role in maintaining the health of the local ecosystem. The honey they produce is harvested in small batches and used in our kitchen and spa treatments, offering guests a taste, and experience, of true Adelaide Hills terroir. By nurturing our own bees, we not only reduce reliance on commercial honey but also contribute to the preservation of native pollinators in the region.
